So I got a job...

I did SO not want to move to Cape Town at the beginning of the year.

I lived in Pretoria for most of my life and I love it there.  I had a great job with awesome colleagues and all the benefits that go with working for the government.  I knew the area.  My family is there and so are my bestest friendies.  The last thing I wanted to do was leave.

I started applying for jobs before the big move and had a few close opportunities, but they all fell through.  Since we've been here, I applied just about everywhere, near and far, whether they had vacancies or not, but nothing worked out... There are just too many people in CT.  I started feeling really frustrated and unwanted and even started applying for jobs for which I am completely overqualified, just because I'm actually qualified for something...

And then, last Tuesday, I got a mail saying a private practice relatively close to me has a vacancy.  As I've done many times before, I phoned the number on the advertisement and left a message.  They phoned back and arranged an interview and asked for my CV.  They phoned back later, saying they have to move the interview because there were just too many applicants.  Right, that was reassuring.

For the first time this year, the interview actually felt like it went well, despite my glaring lack of paediatric experience... but after all my failed attempts to find work this year, I wasn't sure.  They told me they would let me know in a week and a half whether my application was successful.  On the way home, I stopped at Checkers for bread and milk... and the lady at the till randomly gave me (and only me) a bouquet of flowers "just to say thanks for shopping".  When I got home, my husband asked if I want to go out for dinner, which was awesome, since we're actually on a saving-spree this month.  Soon after leaving our apartment, I told him I don't want to wait a week and a half to find out about the job... and, like magic, my phone rang.

It was the practice, saying I got the job.  <GRIN>

There are a lot of things that are cool about this job - the experience I'm going to get, the people I'll be working with, how close the practice is to my apartment, how I'll be driving against traffic most of the time, etc.  But the thing that's just really awesome, is the view on the way there... in the mornings, I'm going to watch the sun rise over the Durbanville winelands, and in the afternoons, I'll see it go down on the other side, all on my way to work.  It's quite a nice comfort - yes, I had to leave Pretoria, but at least I get a beautiful view on my way to work!

The Beginning

This isn't my first blog.  My first one was a temporary one when I was away from home for 7 weeks, to give friends and family updates about what I was up to.  I'd almost forgotten about it, until the inspiration struck to start a new one now.

This isn't going to be a themed blog.  I'm not only going to post about occupational therapy, or about my pet fancy rats, or about being a housewife, or about living in Cape Town... I'm going to post about whatever it is that comes to mind, whenever it comes to mind, and when I feel like typing a post.

This is my publicly-viewable journal.
